The schedules for each day can be broken down into clear segments. How would you catergorise these segments?

What would you say are the most popular genres on television?
  • Soap operas
  • Sitcoms

  • Game shows
  • Films
Who is the target audience of each terrestial channel?
  • BBC 1 = everyone / anyone
  • BBC 2 = educated audience - children in the morning
  • ITV 1 = everyone / anyone
  • Channel 4 = young adults + adults + teenagers
  • Five = everyone / anyone
Roughly, what percentage of each channel's schedules is taken up with repeats? Why do you think this is?
  • To fill up the schedule.
  • Its cheap.
  • Producers save money.
Which channels have more imported programmes in their schedules? Why do you think this might be?
  • Channel 4 + Five - Have not got as much money so it is cheaper to import.
  • Cheaper to import a programme rather than make a new programme.
What do you understand by the term 'the watershed' and where does this occur in the schedules?
  • It is 9 O'clock.
  • Watershed - getting rid of chidren so that they can play more adult programmes.
